Weel Thirteen - Seo

When I first got this project, I instantly thought doing my project about Michael Jackson. He is the one of my favorite singers and his moves and music are extremely energetic that I think this will be good for making magazine about him.

Pictures

I tried to avoid pictures that are lower than 300 pixels. Most of my images I used in this project are more than 800 pixels. One of the images that I used on the right side of first spreadsheet is from Vogue magazine in 2007. The image was relatively low to place only a single image. I used all three images from Vogue to make a one page cover.
The most interesting pictures that I found was my cover face. The size was perfect for to cover the single page by itself (1500 pixels) and this was a face of Michael Jackson by drawing with pencils.

Typefaces

First of all, I used Blackoak Std for my title of magazine “ZEA!?” Because I looked for some typeface that looks very condensed and has strong feeling on it. For the body text I used Caslon and it was really easy to use because they categorized with different purpose of uses: heading or body texts and also the body texts are easily to read. Other sub headings such as the side bar, or anything other than body texts, I used Folio Std and Frutiger LT Std because it really matches with my magazine title and I do not want to use the same typeface for heading.

Design

I tried to keep the same design concept with the original magazine. However, it places two magazine ads in the article and I decided to move those. Basically, the magazine illustration was done by Andy Warhol who is one of my favorite illustrate designers. Thus, I decided to go to similar concepts with the design pattern he used with different pictures. The other spread sheet, I inserted side bar which I collected all the celebrities quotes about Michal Jackson and other page I put a huge Michael Jackson’s silhouette image in the middle.

Week Ten - Schwartz

This is a good demonstration of the implication of a grid system in graphic design. The grid system is oftentimes seen in magazine design because it articulates a structured and easily navigated visual appearance. This example shows the way that images and text are used and juxtaposed in an organized manner. The grid is easy to follow and presents a clear and straightforward visual appeal. The jams are lined up with each other and with the text to make the magazine spread look aesthetically pleasing. The grid system is a good format because it provides a guideline for images and overall design.

Week Four, Stefaniak

Strategy:

In today’s business world where staying on the current edge is crucial to success in the workplace, it’s important to have an equally current résumé. Especially in the art magazine field, using an outdated design or typeface might be the crucial error that causes a person to be passed over during the application process. For this reason, I’ve tried to produce a resume that reflects my personality as well as mold to the newly changing magazine field. In order to keep up with the flux and uncertainty of the future of magazines, my résumé’s goal is to provide prospective employers with a reason to hire me and help sustain the “dying medium.”

Likewise, I also set guidelines for myself in order to ensure a great résumé. By keeping to a simple design, my achievements and experience are able to stand out amid the rounded rectangles and crisp lines. But in using shapes as dividers and headers, I knew that a fresh color would make them pop; the pea green adds cleanness and originality to an otherwise black type résumé. Though my objective in my résumé is to become an editor/writer, the overall current theme of my résumé will help me break into the design-centered field of art magazines.

Typefaces:

Helvetica Neue UltraLight felt like the best choice for the wordmark and headline. Since it’s a sans serif, it provides the résumé with a streamlined and succinct effect that allows me for the use all caps without making it seem as if I’m too loud or forceful. The thinness of the font really worked for the design. In addition, Gill Sans Light seems to be the perfect complement for the body type. Not only does it continue the pattern of sans serif type throughout the résumé, but the weight and posture also allow for easy readability and cohesion, something I feel is important for a résumé.

Week Three - Seo

Text isn’t just a combination of words. In the text section, Lupton mentioned that the text can be viewed as a thing – a sound and sturdy object. This form of letters had successfully led into a great work of art. Using contrast color of black and white catches the eye to follow the path of letter form, which was done in a very sophisticated way. Using black color as a background makes the white letter form more focused and easy to see. The word “rules” place in very different way, which was quite confused but it perfectly matched with the message the designer wants to express.
