The Hearst Building is an example of a grid system. The grid system used for this building is called a diagrid. A diagrid creates triangular structures with diagonal support beams. The shape of the triangular windows and the medium size diamonds on the side is beautiful. Although it is difficult to see how the grid system is used from the finished product, the amount of detail put into the 46-story building wouldn't look as good if a grid was not implemented.
