Week Ten | LaSorsa

This article out of Where Magazine uses grids to create a clean and organized structure. The story, which highlights 30 of the best places in Atlanta, is easier read in a bullet-type (non-traditional) manner. The designer uses four columns to separate 30 little blurbs, giving the name of the place and a brief description. The equal amount of white space between each column keeps the design consistent. The use of a grid is so distinct because not only is the text in columns, but the pictures are also. The columns run from the top of the page to the bottom. Not only does each square picture fit perfectly to the size of the columns but together, the pictures create rows also.

In this example, grids make this article a quick read. Readers will find the information to be short and sweet: however, they will get a jist of what the place is life. The brief text does not overwhelm the reader. The structure even makes it easy to find each number, incase a reader just wanted to read one through five. Grids align the text and ever from a far away view, you can see the structure of the article. Designers depend on grids to layout these stories and they really help to organize a story.
