The Playstation logo is an example of the gestalt principle of closure. The principle of closure has to do with our wanting to close shapes however, by not closing the shape, our imaginations run wild. In this logo, one cannot tell where the "P" ends because it runs into the "S" and the "S" proceeds to run into the P. The lack of closure leaves the viewer the ability to keep viewing the logo in a different way.

I definitely think this logo represents gestalt principles. Not only does it use closure, but I think it also plays with the idea of figure and ground. It almost gives off an illusion of 3D because of the way the S is connected to the P.
ReplyDeleteI never knew the logo of Playstation were designed by the abbreviation. It definitely used the gestalt principle of closure. Also the letter “P” is strongly stressed with the color of red compared to the letter “S”. I liked the way they placed the letter. It really leaves viewers look logo in different ways.
