Week Five | LaSorsa

Absolut Vodka successfully uses the Gestalt principle in this Absolut Citron advertisement. The advertisement is definitely creative, in that it uses the peel of a lemon to imitate the shape of the signature Absolut bottle. The viewer can easily identify with the shape and associate the peel with the lemon-flavored vodka. Even better, the type reads "Absolut Appeal" which again draws back to the lemon "peel." Everything in this as plays upon one theme and keeps relating back to the Absolut Citron. This conforms to one of the parts of Gestalt's theory: continuation. The objects are placed separately: however, they create a visual that means something significant as a whole. The ad is simple, concise but is presented with an edge (mainly, the use of one color on a black, white, gray background). I think this ad uses the principles of Gestalt in a simple way yet proves to be very effective.

  1. I really like how this ad connects every part of it to the lemon peel. Though I think they could have done a little better with the actual bottle (it's too easy to make out the shape), I think they did a really good job matching the slogan to the product, and also the use of color works really well. It's extremely successful at letting viewers know what the ad is selling.

  2. I agree, I think the best part of this ad is its simplicity. All the Absolut advertisements I am familiar with emphasize simplicity, and this one does so with another unique emphasis on it's lemon flavor. Everything connects very well, and the texture of the bottle to resemble a lemon peel is a great effect. I also really like how the bottle seems to have a glow, making it stand out in front of the black background.

  3. I think this ad is a really cool idea, but I wish the title on the actual bottle stood out more. The purpose of the ad is to advertise "Absolute Citron" but it is hard to know what to look for if you can't read the name. However, I do think they did a very good job of connection everything to the idea of the lemon peel. Everything is really easy to follow.

  4. This is a great ad design for Absolut. The only thing that could probably be changed is the placement of the headline; it should be a bit higher than it is now. This is a great idea but I'm curious to see whether they can continue this for all their types of vodka (Peppar, Peach?), because if so, it would be a great series of designs for their brand.

  5. This ad used creative way to convey their message to the people. I really liked the how they used the real peel of lemon to make the shape of bottle. Additionally, l liked the idea of putting focused spot on the background instead of putting only one color. The background really helps to make the product more focused and accentuated.
